Easily considered one of the top manufacturers of pickup trucks today, Ram refreshes its popular 1500, 2500, and 3500 model trucks for 2023 with a range of new features and special editions. Its 2023 trucks are as powerful and impressive as ever, with towing capacities of up to 37,090 pounds, the ability to produce up to 1,075 pound-feet of torque, and plenty of advanced camera and digital gauge technology. Today, in addition to its other popular vehicles, we'll break down each of the three versions of Ram's 2023 pickup truck to see which model might be right for you.
2023 Ram 1500
The Ram 1500 is widely considered one of the best in the pickup truck market alongside the Ford F-150 and the Chevrolet Silverado. When it comes to the 2023 edition, there's no indication the Ram truck will fall behind other popular models. This year moves around some of the feature availability, making many optional features standard on certain trim levels and adding plenty of new features to the available spread of choices.
For example, an LED hitch light and a rear-seat reminder alert are both standard this time around, and cruise control is standard on the Rebel trim level. There's also the option to add a new 12-inch digital gauge cluster with configurable tiles, including your choice between a digital or analog appearance, as well as some new tire options and a couple of new special edition packages: the RED edition and the Limited Elite edition.
Available Trim Levels
In addition to the two special edition trims, the Ram 1500 truck is available in nine different trim levels. The base trim level is the Tradesman, and other trim levels are the HFE, Lone Star, Big Horn, Laramie, Rebel, Limited Longhorn, Limited, and TRX trims. On top of the trim level, you also get your choice of a Quad Cab or an extra-long Crew Cab configuration.
Under the hood, there are three engine options in total, the first being a six-cylinder diesel engine that produces up to 260 horsepower. There's also a gas V-6 engine that produces up to 305 horsepower and a 5.7-liter gas V-8 engine that produces up to 395 horsepower. Each engine pairs to an eight-speed transmission and allows you the choice between rear-wheel drive (RWD) or four-wheel drive (4WD). The basic model has a starting MSRP of $37,410, and the most luxurious option starts at $63,750.
2023 Ram 2500
Ram's version of a heavy-duty pickup truck is the Ram 2500, a three-quarter-ton truck with plenty of strength and a lovely driving experience to boot. Arguably taking the lead against the Ford F-250, the Ram 2500 has plenty of off-road capability and heft for even the toughest jobs.
The major new additions for 2023 are viewing-system upgrades, such as telescoping tow mirrors, and several extra camera system features, such as a Trailer Tow app and a Trailer Reverse Steering Control system that allows you to enter measurements that the camera can track before you start reversing. There's also a digital rearview mirror feature available allowing you to switch between a camera feed and a traditional reflective mirror, as well as two segment-exclusive rear suspensions, a five-link coil system, and an air suspension system.
Available Trim Levels
There are eight different trim levels available with the 2023 Ram 2500, which include the base Tradesman trim as well as the Lone Star, Big Horn, Laramie, Power Wagon, Power Wagon Rebel, Longhorn, and Limited trims. Among the engine options, there's the 6.4-liter gas V-8 engine, the 6.7-liter turbo-diesel engine, and the 6.7-liter turbo inline-six gas engine. Each engine allows you the choice between RWD and 4WD, and while most of the trims pair the engine with an eight-speed transmission, the two more premium trims also offer a six-speed transmission as an option.
2023 Ram 3500
When compared with the 2023 version of the Ram 2500, the Ram 3500 doesn't provide many different elements in the way of upgrades. All the new features added to this year's 2500 truck are present in this year's 3500 truck, such as its camera system upgrades, mirror options, and available 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster.
In any case, the 3500 remains the strongest in the way of Ram's heavy-duty pickup options, with a payload capacity of 7,680 pounds and a towing capacity of up to 37,090 pounds - a best-in-class rating - as well as the ability to produce up to 420 horsepower and an incredible 1,075 pound-feet of torque with the 6.7-liter Cummins high-output turbo-diesel engine, exclusively available on the 3500.
Available Trim Levels
In total, there are six different trim levels available with the 2023 Ram 3500 truck, including the base Tradesman trim level as well as the Big Horn, Lone Star, Laramie, Longhorn, and Limited trims. The basic trim has a starting MSRP of $46,780, while the most premium trim starts at $74,350.
There are three engine options with the 3500: the 6.4-liter Hemi V-8 engine with variable-valve timing and Fuel Saver Technology (cylinder deactivation), which produces up to 410 horsepower and 429 pound-feet of torque; the 6.7-liter Cummins standard-output turbo-diesel engine, which produces up to 370 horsepower and 850 pound-feet of torque; and the 6.7-liter Cummins high-output diesel engine mentioned previously. The 3500 comes with the rear Hotchkiss leaf spring system and also offers an exclusive supplemental air suspension system.
Ram's Complete 2023 Lineup
Special and limited editions make up the majority of Ram's 2023 portfolio, with models such as the Built to Serve and Night editions of the Ram 1500 truck and the massive, imposing Ram 1500 TRX. In addition to its most popular models, Ram has also provided 2023 models for other vehicles throughout its lineup, including the heavy-duty Chassis Cab truck. Also included in its portfolio are commercial vehicles such as the more compact Ram ProMaster City van and the larger Ram ProMaster van.
